Relationships are the most important part of our lives. Healthy relationships make valuable contributions to our happiness and well being. Having toxic relationships can lead to stress, anxiety and depression as well as many other health problems and conditions.
As a human you are hard-wired for connection with others. You need to have others to love, support and encourage you on your life’s journey. People you can easily connect with are your tribe – your family, friends, colleagues, neighbours or acquaintances. People who had value to your life.
Healthy relationships revolve around mutual understanding, empathy and respect. If you don’t have this in a relationship it can become toxic and stressful. If these conditions are not met, then perhaps it is time to reflect on what your needs and wants are in the relationship and consider some discussion around your values and purpose of your relationship.

Some reflective questions you can ask yourself
What are my needs and wants in this relationship?
How are those needs/wants not being satisfied?
What are my qualities/values?
What are my partner’s/friend’s/colleague’s qualities/values?
How are we similar/different?
What am I most grateful for in my relationship?
How can I nurture my relationship?
How can I improve my relationship?
Why is it important for me to have a healthy relationship?

Perhaps your discussion could be centred around the following:
Expressing your needs and wants calmly
Deeper listening and understanding of each other’s differences
Enhanced empathy and compassion
Less judgement
Appreciation of each other’s qualities/values
